These screenings are presented in conjunction with Taos Fall Arts. Q&A with director Kathleen Brennan will follow each screening.
Agnes Martin Before the Grid is an intimate, captivating documentary film by Kathleen Brennan and Jina Brenneman. Capturing little known stories of Agnes Martin as told by friends, lovers and classmates who knew her well, give insight into Martin’s personality and development of her creative process before her famous grid paintings.
In 2016, the film received awards of recognition for feature documentary and women filmmakers from the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards. It has also been shown at several film festivals and museums around the country.
2026 marks the 10 year anniversary of this groundbreaking film.
