About Woven Stories (2011)
“Weaving in Northern New Mexico has joined three distinct cultures into a human tapestry with a common love of fiber and spirit of place. These traditions continue in the small communities of Mora, Taos, Tierra Amarilla, El Rito, Española, Truchas, and Chimayo, each one bringing a specific contribution to the art and practicality of fiber.”
About the Panelists
Connie Taylor is a shepherdess who raised Navajo-Churro sheep for over 30 years and ran the breed’s database for the Navajo-Churro Sheep Association. She helps to conserve this sheep and the traditions linked to it by spinning and dyeing wool to create custom yarns.
Patricia Quintana is a Taoseña, shepherdess, horse woman, and regenerative farmer who raises sheep in Northern New Mexico. She is the owner/operator of Rancho La Fina Lamb and Wool as well as De La Tierra Consulting LLC.
Luisa Valerio Mylet is a third-generation sheep rancher who has childhood stories of herding sheep into the mountains with her grandparents. A Taoseña, over the years she has served many roles both at Taos Historic Museums and in public office.
