72 Miles to Go… by Hilary Bettis, Directed by Sam Joseph
LOCATION: Backstage: 1350 Paseo del Pueblo Sur, Suite A
Rehearsals start in early September, performances Oct 16-19, and Oct 23-26.
There are five roles: 2 men (2M) and 3 women (3F), all Latino/Hispanic.
72 miles is the distance between Tucson, Arizona and Nogales, Mexico, and the distance between deported immigrant Anita and her American-born husband and children. Spanning the years 2008-2016, the play follows one family as they come of age, fall in love, fight in wars and fight for each other against the backdrop of deportation, DACA and changing immigration laws.
Characters:
Billy—the father, Chicano, pastor at a Unitarian church
Anita—the mother, Mexican, living in Nogales, Mexico
Their children
Christian (23-31)—dreams of being a Marine
Eva (17-25)—the family caretaker
Aaron (14-22)—loves science
