Sharon Oard Warner is Professor Emerita of English/Creative Writing at the University of New Mexico and founding director for the Taos Summer Writers’ Conference (1999-2016). This November, she is pleased to be the Mabel Dodge Luhan/SOMOS Writer-in-Residence.
On Friday, November 22nd at 5:30, Warner will read from her novel-in-progress, First–& Always. The title comes from a letter Alfred Stieglitz wrote to Georgia O’Keeffe on May 26th, 1918, when O’Keeffe was thirty-one and Stieglitz fifty-four.
First–& Always takes place over the summer and fall of 1941. The main character is Georgia O’Keeffe, now fifty-three. The plot hews closely to events she describes in nearly daily letters to her husband, Alfred Stieglitz. (These letters are digitized and available through Yale’s Beinecke and Rare Books Library.)
