Qigong is a vast and ancient Daoist practice that uses movement, breathing, visualization,and sound for healing and balancing the energy of ones body and environment. They created these practices and philosophy by intense observation of nature, and derived many movements from animals.
Much of it was kept secret for most of its existence and passed down by family members from one generation to the next. Qigong, or energy cultivation heals on all 4 levels: emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual. It has branches in Medical, Spiritual,and Martial practices. Tai-Chi Chuan is an example of a Martial (self defense oriented) branch of Qigong.
