About the event:
Please join us for an intimate lecture and sneak peak fashion show as Patricia Michaels prepares to launch into her next chapter serving as a professor at Parsons School of Design in New York City.
Innovative. Eco-Friendly. Avant-garde. Distinctive. Fashion-Forward. Organic. Unique. Leader. Showstopper. These are just a few words that come to mind when you hear the name Patricia Michaels.
Michaels will give a lecture of over 40 fashion images; a presentation she gives at universities and museums all over the world. The mini collection fashion show will be a sneak peak of what Michaels will present at SWAIA’s Gala showcase where she will be the exclusive designer.
“I’m creating a fundraiser so that my move to NYC working at Parsons will allow me to ease into this new and important direction. In all of this I will bring back the interests and support that are transpired from my time in the Big Apple. One of many repeated questions when I travel is where do you get your inspiration from and I tell them to come and visit beautiful Taos Pueblo and New Mexico, meet some of the artists and see the culture. The extraordinary landscape gives a generous palette and then one will know where my inspiration comes from. I’m grateful to my beautiful children Mozart and Margeaux, family, James, friends, clients, museums and arts for getting me to where I am and then giving me the pride that I can share where I come from.”
Tah-ah/Thank you

Bio
For over 20 years, Patricia Michaels has been producing one-of-a-kind haute couture that transcends cultures and defies fashion trends. Growing up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she was surrounded by beauty—in culture, landscape, and art, all which greatly influenced her design aesthetic. Her Native American culture is deeply rooted in New Mexico, and as a child, she spent a lot of time at Taos Pueblo where many of her family, including her grandparents, lived. In this majestic, untouched terrain, Patricia received a unique education including seven years of college, an apprenticeship at the Santa Fe Opera, an apprenticeship with an Italian tailor. In addition the environment became her teacher. With the help of her elders, she learned to respect and honor the process of working with her hands and heart.
