Istara Freedom—fine artist, stone sculptor, instructor, writer, researcher, and Genízaro descendant—will discuss her research and journey in discovering her Genízaro roots in Abiquiú and northern New Mexico, including what it means to be a Genízaro, her family lineage, the process of migration, and the loss and rediscovery of family connections during an important chapter in the history of the American Southwest.
