The American Southwest is a family-friendly wildlife movie that takes viewers on an unforgettable journey down the mighty Colorado River. Narrated by indigenous environmentalist Quannah Chasinghorse, the film beautifully showcases the abundant wildlife of the region, confronts the ecological impacts of dams and water overuse, and boldly advocates for better management of water and wildlife. Made in association with Natives Outdoors, the movie is told through the perspective of some of the Southwest’s most charming characters… such as industrious beavers, bugling bull elk, and soaring condors. Between its legendary landscapes and fascinating wildlife, The American Southwest aims to endear millions of people to better cherish, love, and conserve this unique region.
About Lia Nydes – Cinematographer
Lia is an environmental filmmaker specializing in filming rare and elusive species, often through hours in camera blinds and the use of remote camera trap systems. She has filmed for organizations including National Geographic, PBS, and the National Park Service. Lia has contributed to multiple Fin and Fur Films documentaries, including American Southwest, Deep in the Heart 2, and American Lion. Born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she now calls Taos home.
