Nikoloz Makhateli’s ‘La Fille Mal Gardée’
SAT July 27, 2pm
* (2PM Matinee is FREE for children ages 12 & under, Educators, & Veterans)
Join Ballet Taos for this light-hearted and comedic tale of two young people in love. Ballet Taos is thrilled to host Nikoloz Makhateli, world-renowned choreographer and master teacher, to TCA’s main stage with his clever adaptation of this farcical ballet.
The ballet tells the story of Lise, the only daughter of the widow Simone. She wants to marry her off to Alain, the son of a wealthy landowner. However, Lise is in love with the young farmer Colas. Fortunately, Alain is as disinterested in the girl as she is in him, and Simone is forced to accept her daughter’s choice. Set in a picturesque French countryside village, the ballet features two acts, danced by talented young artists from Ballet Taos’ Summer Intensive Program attending from all over New Mexico.
The cast of accomplished dancers will be joined by returning guest artists, Daya Frenkel of Israel Ballet, dancing the role of Lise, and Will Wisneskey of Grand Rapids Ballet, dancing the role of Colas. The overbearing widow, Simone, will be danced by Ballet Taos Artistic Director, Megan Yackovich. Get your tickets today for this must-see performance sure to bring joy and laughter to audiences of all ages. Your ticket purchase supports Ballet Taos’ 2024/25 Performance Season and helps to make training for young artists in our community stellar and affordable.
