Melissa Lind, Kristi Nelson Hempel, and Ashley Januskiewiecz are Taos artists who are Wayfinding through art.
Melissa Lind’s work: The Art of Failing, explores the instruction of the rebellious through the lens of neurodiversity. The work includes interactive installations that encourage people to graffiti a school desk, discard work as the work itself, and question the structures we have created for ourselves. Lind was raised and educated in the American Southwest. She is on the board of Twirl and teaches the after school chess program at Arroyos Del Norte Elementary in Taos.
Ashley Januskiewiecz, a New Mexico native, enjoys all the many landscapes of Taos. Fishing and hiking with her dogs and husband, Taylor, gives her all the inspiration to create her works of art. Ever-changing her paint style and approach to new works, her current series focuses on the colorful realism found in nature, allowing herself to let go of the troubles of everyday life and truly get lost in the details. The more intentional steps she’s been taking with this series has healed much within her and really given her a space to express herself and the way she sees nature.
Kristi Nelson Hempel has navigated her way through Taos creating bold abstract paintings inspired by the potent sage and crisp mountain air. Hiking and camping with her husband Marc and two dogs, Kristi finds her way in Taos with openness and strength. Her current work delves deep into a place of heart exploration which follows the ebb and flow of personal recovery and healing cultivating a rich life full of color and texture.
