If you’re like me then you’re just beginning to realize that Christmas is almost here, and you haven’t seriously thought about what to get for all those people you love. Right now I’m saying, “How did this happen? I didn’t even realize it was December yet, and now I’m last minute Christmas shopping.”
Well, I’ll help you out, since I’ve been considering my options for the last 24 hours. I’ve come up with this list of local goodies that support fabulous small businesses that have great products and services in Taos. It makes me feel good to support them, and even happier to share their talents with the people I love.
So if you’re wondering what to give those on your list, and need some last minute suggestions, here’s my tops:
Pie (Koko).
A pie from Koko is always a treat to share with someone special. And so delicious. Diana and Kenji know how to make anyone feel like a sweetie.
Pilates (Taos Pilates studio).
A few classes with Carrie and Amber at Taos Pilates Studio will send anyone into 2014 feeling strong and beautiful. There are great women (and a few awesome men too!) to work out with, and Carrie and Amber are simply great.
A night out (Lambert’s).
A gift certificate to my favorite, Lambert’s, is always a treat. If you want to make someone feel really special with a delectable meal or cozy happy hour, Lambert’s certainly does the trick.
Facial (Sonja’s Skin Salon).
At Sonja’s Skin Salon, Sonja will help your skin get a good pampering. Her treatments range from healing sun damage to helping you keep that “young” face. Whatever your need, she give you a quiet, transcendent facial that relaxes your whole body.
Yoga — for men (AuraFitness).
If you are trying to get your man to take care of himself a bit more, I hear David Garver’s Broga class might do the trick. I haven’t seen it – no girls allowed. But if you call AuraFitness, David or Aura can give you the details.
Wine (Black Mesa Winery).
No one can go wrong with a few bottles of Black Mesa in their Christmas stocking. Their Black Beauty dessert wine might pair nicely with those chocolate Santas. Head over to the Black Mesa Wine Bar for a taste before you take home your favorite bottle.
Art (Lenny Foster’s Living Light Gallery).
Healing Hands calendars and books by Lenny Foster are gifts to be remembered. Lenny’s photographs are a lovely way to start off any calendar day. They are available at his gallery, Living Light.
Prints (Ennui Gallery).
Ennui Gallery has prints by Sarah Hart and other young artists in town that will spice up any room. Browsing Ennui gives you the opportunity to pick up a couple other pieces by up and coming artists as well.
Beer (Taos Mesa Brewing).
At Taos Mesa Brewing, you can pick up a growler or two of your favorite brew to share, or give a gift certificate. Either way, you’re supporting one of the nation’s best local breweries and a great new business in town.
Tango (taos Tango).
If you want to spice things up and take up a new adventure as a couple in the new year, Tango lessons might be a good choice. Mike and Carrie of Taos Tango are beautiful instructors and I hear their classes are great fun!
