Among the many remarkable secrets Taos holds is the presence of a world-class youth ballet studio. Amber Vasquez and her team at Taos Youth Ballet have been turning out a truly stunning cadre of young dancers for nearly a decade, and this weekend is your chance to go see for yourself.
This is not your grandma’s ballet recital — sure, there’ll be the requisite oo-ing and ahh-ing at tiny adorable ballerinas doing little more than waving at mom and dad, but come on, you’d have to be truly cold hearted not to derive some serious joy from that. And it’s beside the point entirely, because the older ballerinas are tremendously talented young men and women, and a real joy to watch.
This year’s production is JM Barrie’s classic children’s tale Peter Pan.
As always, the fabulous Zoë Zimmerman spent the month of April with dozens of twinkle-toed Taosena/os jeté-ing in and out of her studio for the TYB spring photo shoot.
Enjoy some of the fruits of her labor below, and then head to the TCA to take in the whole show.
