Taos Jazz Bebop Society presents
The Brubeck Brothers
FRI, October 17, 7:30pm
Chris Brubeck, trombone & electric bass; Dan Brubeck, drums; Mike DiMicco, guitar; Chuck Lamb, piano
Joyous, inventive jazz that’s both relaxed and expressive… by four masterful musicians.
Two sons of jazz giant Dave Brubeck will perform with their quartet at Taos Center for the Arts. Rooted in “straight-ahead” jazz, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet also dives into quirky time signatures, mixed in a joyful way with influences of funk, blues and world music. Dan Brubeck, drummer and Chris Brubeck, bassist/trombonist/composer have been making music together practically all their lives. They cut their first record together in 1966—nearly a half century ago. Since then they’ve played a variety of styles in many different groups, including with their father, Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Acclaimed guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb complete the quartet.
Brubeck Brothers Quartet performs at concert series, colleges, and jazz festivals across North America and Europe including the Newport, Detroit, Montreal, Playboy/Hollywood Bowl, and Monterey Jazz Festivals. The Quartet’s last CD, LifeTimes, was a hit on the Jazz Week radio chart where it made the Top Ten list as one of the most played jazz recordings of the year.
“…a wondrous combination of swing, melodic majesty, masterful arrangements and a truckload of truly inspirational solos.” – Seattle Times
Chris and Dan were both members of the Dave Brubeck Quartet and toured with their father all over the world. Collectively, they, along with guitarist Dan DiMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb, have performed and recorded with an incredible variety of renowned artists, from Gerry Mulligan, Larry Coryell, Paul Desmond and Jack DeJohnette… to Michael Franks, Bela Fleck and Cream drummer, Ginger Baker.
Part of the 19th Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival.
