Sunset Scaries: The Shining
SAT Aug 30, 8pm
The TCA is back with a new drive-in series, Sunset Scaries, featuring 3 thriller classics that will be showing in our back lot. Tune in with your car radio at 101.5 FM!
Ten years ago, the caretaker Charles Grady murdered his wife, his two daughters and himself with an axe affected by isolation. After landing a job as an off-season caretaker for the Overlook Hotel, Jack Torrance, an aspiring author and recovering alcoholic, starts driving into insanity. The hotel’s dark history and supernatural forces begin to influence Jack, leading to his descent into madness and violence, while his psychic son Danny experiences disturbing visions. As Jack’s writing goes nowhere and Danny’s visions become more terrifying, Jack discovers the hotel’s dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on murdering his family.
“The movie is not about ghosts but about madness and the energies it sets loose in an isolated situation primed to magnify them.”
– Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
“Ostensibly a haunted house story, it manages to traverse a complex world of incipient madness, spectral murder and supernatural visions… and also makes you jump.”
– Ian Nathan, Empire Magazine
