¡CHICANAO! Caminos Distintos
Friday, October 17th, 2025
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Millicent Rogers Museum
This exhibition explores the diverse artistic journeys of Chicano and Chicana artists in New Mexico. The term “Chicano,” once a derogatory label, has evolved into a symbol of pride and cultural identity, with roots in the Pachuco movement of the 1940s and the Chicano civil rights struggle. Caminos Distintos celebrates how Chicano artists express their “Chicanismo” through various themes such as cultural traditions, family, landscape, Dia de Los Muertos, and the fusion of contemporary styles with traditional mediums. The exhibit highlights artwork with strong political messages, reflecting the challenges and triumphs of the Chicano identity, past and present. Through this collection, the exhibition honors the legacy of early Chicano artists, engages with the present, and imagines the future of Chicana and Chicano art in New Mexico.
