Sleeping Tiger Zen Center has just begun its tenth anniversary silent retreat when a Picuris Indian man falls from a cliff on adjacent Picuris Pueblo land.  Sheriff Ulysses Walker of Taos County and Picuris War Chief Ray Pando to investigate. The next day a record snowstorm traps attendees at the remote monastery and a Zen sensei is found dead. Ulysses realizes both deaths are murders and that they are related. Someone at the retreat has old scores to settle, putting everyone, even Ulysses and his family, at risk.
