Kundalini (coiled serpent in Sankrit) refers to the energy lying dormant at the base of the spine. In most people it never escapes the lower triangle or 1st three chakras. Kundalini Yoga is the system of awakening this energy and allowing it to rise up the spine to the higher, more spiritual energy centers. This is done through movements, pranayama, mantras, mudras, bhandas (locks), and meditation. The combination of all of these exercises activates the glands and endocrine system, strengthens the nervous system, expands the lung capacity, and eliminates toxins in the blood.
