Learn ideas and techniques to improve your rhythm and lead improvisation skills through the music of Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead. This is a workshop and open jam session that will take you into the mind of Jerry Garcia and his approach to improvising solos.
Topics include:
– The foundation of melodic leads
– Chord shapes/arpeggios vs scales: Playing through non-diatonic changes
– Single lines, diads, triads
– Connecting ideas
– Common “Jerryisms”
– Rhythm ideas
– Listening
– Timing/phrasing
