Native Roots coordinates educational classes and workshops based on land-based spirituality, self-care, and community healing. Their summer classes provide a remarkable opportunity for people to meet with many extraordinary traditional healers from around New Mexico. This includes Emigdio Ballon who is director of the Institute of Natural and Traditional Knowledge and Agricultural Director of the Pueblo of Tesuque. Emigdio was also featured in the documentary “Seeds”. Lakota Sundance Chief Howard Badhand, Curandera Tonita Gonzales, UNM instructor Ana Chavez, and Henrietta Gomez from Taos Pueblo are among others who will be teaching the series.
Tonita Gonzales will be teaching June 24 about Curanderismo, Meso American Ceremony, Laugh therapy, medicinal plants and foods. Cost is by sliding scale. Classes are open to tribal members of New Mexico on a donation basis.
