π brings Austin Psych-Rock to Taos Mesa Brewing

PI

This early spring has Taos stirring with restless energy, ready for new adventures and fresh experiences. For the many locals who are weary of the same old nights out, the usual Taos bands in their usual venues, Taos Mesa Brewing is offering a fresh alternative this Saturday night. Austin band π (PI) is a raw, authentic, psychedelic garage trip down avenues of sound far from the ordinary.

Claiming influences spanning the range of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Meadow, The Black Angels, Tame Impala, Doves, My Morning Jacket, The Greenhornes, Sleepy Sun, Night Beats, 13th Floor Elevators, The Velvet Underground, and Radiohead, π is committed to creating their own non-conformist sound that defies genre. “Rather than attempt to recreate the music of bands which we enjoy, our music is aimed towards creating an original sound derived from our many influences and our own passion for creating music,” says Sean Lochridge, the band’s drummer.

Trent Langley on lead vocals and guitar, Brandon Fawks on bass, and Sean’s drumming combine to create a compelling musical journey with driving beats, rough edges, hypnotic side-trips and unexpected layers.  Blogger Joncliff McKinley says, “watching π is a distantly remembered robo-trip, echoing back to front, slo-mo and after-images, before breaking into full-on fever dreams, hot and sweaty and thrashing. These gentlemen are showmen, no doubt, but none more so than Sean on drums; this man is an animal, get him a towel and a drink. Breakneck beats and echo vox keep me roped in from the first song, and when they break those instrumentals down, you wake the fuck up.”

π gets ready to wake Taos the f*&k up, at 8pm this Saturday night.
